What to do in Agadir
- The beach and the corniche: a sandy beach stretching for several kilometres, lined with a promenade with cafés, restaurants and equipment rental. This is the heart of a stay. The Atlantic remains powerful: check the flags and the lifeguards' instructions before swimming.
- The marina and the port: quays, sailboats and restaurants, lively at the end of the day. The fishing port is the usual address for a grilled fish lunch.
- Agadir Oufella kasbah: founded in 1540 by the Saadians on a hill, ruined by the 1960 earthquake. What remains are the restored ramparts and a wide view over the port, the city and the bay. Guides report an entry fee of about 90 MAD (adult) and 65 MAD (child) and opening hours of roughly 10 am to 7 pm (8 pm in summer), to be checked on site; outside access and the viewpoints are free. You get up by taxi or cable car.

- El Had souk: one of the largest markets in Morocco, open Tuesday to Sunday (Sunday is the busiest) and closed on Monday. Prices are negotiable. To see how it differs from the Marrakech souks, read our guide to the souks of Marrakech.
- The hammam: one of the easiest pleasures in Agadir. Hotels offer hammam and scrub (kessel) packages; a neighbourhood hammam costs much less but is more basic. Ask the price of the scrub before going in. For the basics (towel, what to wear, tip), see our Marrakech hammam guide, which also applies to Agadir. A hammam and massage package with transfers can also be booked online; check the length and what is included.
- Crocoparc: a crocodile park opened in 2015 in Drarga, on the outskirts of Agadir, with gardens and ponds. Guides give opening hours of about 10 am to 6 pm, to be checked before you go. Tickets with hotel transfer are sold on the partner platform; check in the listing whether the transfer is included and whether cancellation is free. A skip-the-line entry ticket is also available without the transfer.
- Sea fishing: several operators offer 4 to 5 hour trips from the marina, with fishing, swimming and lunch on board. The offers are similar; compare the equipment provided, the number of passengers per boat, the lunch and the cancellation policy if the sea is rough.
Quad, buggy and Paradise Valley
Quads and buggies leave from the coast, between dunes, beaches and inland tracks; the offers are compared in our page on quad and buggy in Agadir and Taghazout. For a day in nature, Paradise Valley from Agadir is the most requested trip; the journey from Marrakech is described in Taghazout and Paradise Valley from Marrakech.
Where to stay in Agadir
- Seafront: the most convenient for the beach, restaurants and resort hotels; also the liveliest and the most expensive.
- Marina: quieter, within walking distance of the port and restaurants.
- Founty and Sonaba: hotels and residences a few minutes from the beach, often calmer for families.
- Taghazout: a surf village about 20 km to the north, for a relaxed atmosphere.
The detail of each area, with hotels to compare, is in our page where to stay in Agadir.
Getting there
- From Marrakech: 3 to 3.5 hours by road, by CTM or Supratours bus, by car or with a private transfer. The options are detailed in Agadir from Marrakech and bus or transfer Marrakech – Agadir. A private transfer Marrakech – Agadir is the simplest with children or lots of luggage.
- By plane: Agadir – Al Massira airport is about 20 km south-east of the city; allow for a taxi or a transfer to reach your hotel.
- On site: petty taxis cover the city; ask for the meter. Distances between the beach, marina, kasbah and souk are long on foot.
When to go
Agadir is a beach destination almost all year: summer is hot but cooled by the sea wind, winter is mild but the water stays cool. Morning mist is frequent. For comfortable swimming, aim for May to October; to escape the cold, winter days suit walking and quad rides.
Agadir or Essaouira?
- Beach, hotels, sun and trips: Agadir.
- Medina, ramparts and port atmosphere: Essaouira.
