Rue Riad Zitoun el-Jdid

Rue Riad Zitoun el-Jdid

Rue Riad Zitoun runs alongside the Bahia: slipper, spice and lantern shops, cafés and restaurants. It leads to Jemaa el-Fna in about ten minutes.

Dar Si Said

The Dar Si Said museum, the former palace of Ba Ahmed's brother, has been closed for restoration since the 2023 earthquake; its reopening was not confirmed in October 2026. If someone says it is open through another entrance, check at the door.

Place des Ferblantiers

Place des Ferblantiers and Bab Berrima

Place des Ferblantiers is a pedestrian square lined with small lantern workshops and terraces, in front of the Bab Berrima gate.

The Mellah

The Mellah is the former Jewish quarter. You can see the Lazama synagogue and the Miaara Jewish cemetery, where the caretaker collects an entrance fee. It is a lived-in neighbourhood: ask before photographing anyone.

The El Badi Palace

The El Badi Palace is open 9am to 5pm for 100 dh. Its ruins, storks and the Koutoubia minbar are worth about an hour.

A little further

The Saadian Tombs and the Kasbah round off the morning.

Traps

  • "It's closed": always check at the entrance.
  • Fake guides who tag along unasked then demand money.
  • Horse carriages without an agreed price from Place des Ferblantiers.
