How a day pass works in Marrakech

A day pass, or "pool day", is a package sold by a hotel or estate to people who are not staying there. The idea is almost always the same:

  • access to the pool and garden for the day, with a sun lounger or mattress and a towel;
  • lunch, usually a starter, main course and dessert menu served at the pool restaurant; some places add a welcome mocktail;
  • options: spa access, massage or hammam, for an extra charge.

Drinks are almost always extra. Booking is required everywhere: book by phone, email or messaging app at least the day before, and several days ahead for a weekend or during Moroccan school holidays.

Prices range from about MAD 250 for simple entry to a country club to more than MAD 1,000 at the palace hotels. Most packages with lunch cost between MAD 440 and MAD 700 outside the palaces.

Palace and luxury hotels

La Mamounia: pool for hotel guests only

The large pool at La Mamounia is not open to outside visitors: it is reserved for hotel guests. Without staying there, you can however book a spa treatment, or a tea, a drink or a meal that gives access to the gardens. Conditions and prices are detailed in the hotel's page.

Es Saadi, in Hivernage

The Es Saadi estate in Hivernage, a few minutes by taxi from the medina, offers two sets of day passes, by reservation and subject to availability:

  • Es Saadi Hotel: MAD 600 with access to the pool of the Around the Pool restaurant and a starter, main and dessert lunch; MAD 1,000 with a hammam, a 30-minute massage or a facial on top.
  • Es Saadi Palace: MAD 950 with the heated outdoor pool, the Lagon pool and a three-course lunch with a mocktail; MAD 1,250 adding the spa's indoor pool and the Oriental Thermae circuit; MAD 1,650 with a treatment of your choice.

Four Seasons, Boulevard de la Ménara

Between Hivernage and the Menara gardens, the Four Seasons opens its heated pool to non-guests: MAD 1,000 for the pool only, MAD 1,400 with an à la carte lunch (starter, main, dessert), MAD 2,200 with a 60-minute massage as well. Children under 12 pay half price for pool access and the day pass.

Royal Mansour, in the medina

The Royal Mansour, near Bab Doukkala, opens its restaurant Le Jardin and its 30 by 20 metre pool to visitors. The package includes a sun lounger, a welcome mocktail, lunch and an iced treat, with 20% off the spa menu; private air-conditioned pavilions can be rented for two or four people. The pavilion for two, lunch included, is sold for MAD 5,500 in the hotel's online shop. Ask for the price of the sun-lounger package when booking.

Fairmont Royal Palm, Amizmiz road

Further out, on the Amizmiz road, the Fairmont Royal Palm offers a day pass at MAD 1,400: welcome mocktail, access to a 2,000 m² pool facing the Atlas, a three-course Mediterranean lunch at L'Olivier restaurant and a MAD 200 credit to use at the spa the same day. Children under 12 get 50% off; proper dress is required in the restaurant, where swimwear is not allowed.

Country clubs and the Palmeraie

A few kilometres from the centre, estates set among olive trees offer a more relaxed atmosphere and gentler prices.

  • Beldi Country Club (km 6, Route du Barrage, Cherifia): two large pools surrounded by olive trees, heated in winter, and two children's pools. The full package (mattress, towel, pool and lunch) costs MAD 440 per adult and MAD 280 per child; pool access without lunch MAD 250 (MAD 150 for a child).
  • Tigmiza (Route de Bab Atlas, Palmeraie): MAD 680 with lunch and access to the hotel's two pools, one of them heated, or MAD 1,130 with a 30-minute massage; a transfer from the centre may be offered depending on availability.

Other estates sell pool days; several are adults-only or over-12s only: ask before coming with children.

Beach clubs on the Ourika road

On the Ourika road, about twenty kilometres from the centre, beach clubs combine large pools, a restaurant, DJs and parties. Famous Beach, the best known, is built around three pools and runs a free shuttle from town. The principle differs from hotel day passes: you book a sun lounger or daybed against a minimum spend, which varies with the day, the spot and the events.

Bars, rooftops and evening clubs are covered in our guide Marrakech at night.

A pool in the Agafay desert

The Agafay desert, a plateau of stony hills about 40 km south-west of the city, has several camps with pools facing the Atlas, open to day visitors:

  • Les Terrasses d'Agafay: MAD 550 with the heated pool, sun lounger, towel and à la carte lunch; the transfer is sometimes included, to be confirmed when booking.
  • Inara Camp: day pass with a three-course lunch, pool, sun lounger and towel, around MAD 450 to 650 depending on the season and package.

Water parks: for families

  • Oasiria (km 4, Amizmiz road): the city's large water park, with a wave pool, lazy river, slides and areas for small children, open from April to the very beginning of November. Entry costs MAD 300 for an adult or a child taller than 1.50 m and MAD 200 for a smaller child; a free shuttle leaves from Jemaa el-Fna and Gueliz.
  • Aqua Fun Club (km 18, Ourika road): the water park of a resort hotel, with several dozen slides. The day package with buffet lunch, snack and soft drinks costs MAD 850 per adult and MAD 425 per child under 12, free for under-2s; simple park entry without meals costs MAD 300 (MAD 200 for a child). The burkini is accepted.

Lalla Takerkoust lake: no swimming in the lake

Shores of Lalla Takerkoust lake lined with eucalyptus trees, with hills in the background

About 40 km south-west, or 45 minutes by the Amizmiz road, Lalla Takerkoust lake is a reservoir facing the Atlas. Be aware: swimming in the lake is officially prohibited for safety reasons. Kayaking, paddleboarding and pedal boats are available from the leisure bases on the shore. To swim, choose a lakeside hotel or restaurant with a pool, such as Le Flouka, which has two, and ask about access conditions when booking lunch.

Dress, children and rules to know

  • Swimwear is worn at the pool only: bring clothes for lunch, which are required in palace restaurants.
  • The burkini: no law regulates it in Morocco, and each establishment sets its own rule. Some hotels refuse it, others accept it, such as the Aqua Fun Club; ask before booking.
  • Children: palace hotels often give 50% off to under-12s, but some estates only accept adults. At Oasiria, children must be accompanied by an adult.

How to dress in town and in the palace hotels is explained in what to wear in Marrakech.

Which season, and heated pools in winter

Pool season runs from April to October. In July and August, average highs approach 38 °C. Our guide Marrakech in summer has more tips for coping with the heat.

From November to March, days are often sunny but unheated water gets cold, and Oasiria is closed. Choose a place with a heated pool instead: the Four Seasons, the outdoor pool of the Es Saadi Palace, the Beldi Country Club, one of the two pools at Tigmiza or Les Terrasses d'Agafay.

Getting there

  • Hivernage and Boulevard de la Ménara (Es Saadi, Four Seasons): by petit taxi from the medina or Gueliz, in a few minutes; ask for the meter at the start.
  • Ourika, Amizmiz and Barrage roads, Agafay, Lalla Takerkoust: you need a grand taxi or a driver booked for the round trip, agreeing in advance on the time and price of the return, as it is hard to find a taxi on site.
  • Shuttles: Oasiria and Famous Beach run a free shuttle.

Fares and tips for taxis are in our guide to getting around Marrakech.
