Perfume Museum and workshops in Marrakech: opening hours, prices and booking

Updated on October 14, 2026

The Perfume Museum (Musée du Parfum) is housed in a 19th-century riad in the Marrakech medina, in the Diour Saboun district. It was created by Abderrazzak Benchaâbane, a Marrakech perfumer and ethnobotanist (who also founded the Palmeraie Museum), and the Moroccan press presented it in 2022 as the first perfume museum in Morocco. Seven rooms follow the steps from plant to perfume: extraction of plant oils, copper stills, essential oils, and local ingredients such as orange blossom, saffron, Atlas cedar and mint. The visit ends with workshops where you compose your own perfume. It is a short, sensory visit that combines well with the nearby souks.

Highlights

The plants and spices of the medina

The plants and spices of the medina

The raw materials of perfume can be found in the souks, such as on the Spice Square. The museum explains where they come from and how they are transformed.

The rooms and the stills

The rooms of the riad, on two levels, present extraction techniques, copper stills and the scents of Morocco. A hanging garden of medicinal plants extends the tour.

The creation workshop

You compose a bespoke perfume with a guide who lets you smell the raw materials. For children, the museum also offers olfactory awareness sessions.

Rose distillation

In spring 2025, the museum held rose and orange blossom distillation demonstrations from 22 March until late April or early May depending on flowering: ask whether they are repeated this year.

Practical info

Tips

  • The museum is announced as open every day until 5:30 pm (last entry around 5 pm); some sites say 5 pm, so arrive before 4 pm. Admission costs 50 MAD and is free for children under 10 (price noted in 2025; another site says 40 MAD, so confirm at the desk). A bespoke perfume workshop starts at around 600 MAD depending on the size and concentration of the bottle; visitors often find it expensive, so compare before booking. We found no online ticketing for the simple visit: you pay on site, preferably in cash. If you only want to compose a perfume, another workshop can be booked online: the perfume and natural oil creation workshop by Les Sources Berbères Riad & Spa, from $56 per person, 1 h 30, in French and English, with a maximum of four participants (partner link: we earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you). It is not the same place as the museum. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for the visit alone, an hour and a half with a workshop.

How to get there

Address: 2, Derb Chérif, Diour Saboun street, Marrakech medina The easiest way is to take a petit taxi to near the medina and finish on foot, as the lane is narrow; ask your host for the name of the derb or use an offline map. Medina streets are poorly signposted: do not accept help from improvised "guides" (see scams to avoid in Marrakech) The museum is in the medina, close to the souks
