Majorelle Garden or Jardin Secret: Which One to Choose in Marrakech?

Updated on October 8, 2026

If you only have time for one garden, choose the Majorelle Garden for the photos, the blue and the Yves Saint Laurent story; choose the Jardin Secret for calm, medina architecture and a lower price. The two complement each other, but they hardly resemble each other: one is a painter's botanical garden in the new town, the other a former medina palace. Prices and hours below are those seen in October 2026; check the official ticket offices before booking. ## At a glance | | Majorelle Garden | Jardin Secret | |---|---|---| | Area | Guéliz, rue Yves Saint Laurent | Medina, 121 rue Mouassine | | Garden only | 170 MAD (age 10 and up) | 100 MAD (80 MAD up to age 24) | | Under 10 / 12 | Free under 10, accompanied | Free under 12, with proof | | Booking | Online ticket, time slot | Site ticket office (check before visiting) | | Hours | 08:00-18:30, last entry 18:00 | 09:30-18:00 (Oct-Feb), 18:30 (Mar-Sep) | | Duration | 1 to 1.5 hours | About 1 hour | | Highlight | Majorelle blue, cacti, Berber museum | Islamic garden, panoramic tower | ## The Majorelle Garden: the icon ![Blue villa-studio in the Majorelle Garden, Marrakech](https://images.parisauthority.com/images/uploads/commons/le-jardin-des-majorelle-21.jpg) Created by the painter Jacques Majorelle and taken over by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé in 1980, it is the most photographed place in the city. The blue studio, yellow pots and cacti make instantly recognisable pictures; the combined ticket also opens the Berber arts museum. The downside: a high price, narrow paths that fill up mid-morning, and a ticket to buy online for a set slot. Details are on our page Majorelle Garden. The Yves Saint Laurent Museum is on the same street, and the MACMA a few minutes' walk away. ## The Jardin Secret: medina calm ![Islamic garden of the Jardin Secret, Marrakech](https://images.parisauthority.com/images/uploads/commons/morocco-marrakech-le-jardin-secret-49133982557.jpg) Behind the walls of rue Mouassine, a restored former palace complex holds a four-part Islamic garden and an exotic garden, riads decorated with zellige and painted cedar, and a tower (extra 40 MAD) for a view over the rooftops. It is cheaper, quieter and ten minutes' walk from Jemaa el-Fna. See the page Le Jardin Secret. Beware of touts on rue Mouassine who claim the garden is closed in order to lead you elsewhere. ## Which to choose for your stay - **One garden, first visit**: Majorelle if you like photography and fashion history, Jardin Secret if you prefer architecture. - **Small budget**: the Jardin Secret, or another option from our lists of Marrakech gardens and free activities. - **With children**: Majorelle for the cacti, ponds and paths; the Jardin Secret for its small size, but no strollers on the tower stairs (the tower is off limits under age 6). - **Hot day**: both at opening; Majorelle opens at 08:00, earlier than the Jardin Secret. - **Both**: a morning at Majorelle, an afternoon in the medina; allow 270 MAD per adult at full price, gardens only (170 + 100). ## How to combine them with the rest Majorelle goes with Guéliz: see Guéliz and Hivernage. The Jardin Secret combines with the Mouassine district and the Mouassine Museum.
