By bike with a guide

Bike outings are almost always guided: a local guide, a city bike, usually a helmet and water, and a safety briefing. The point is to link places too far apart for a walk: the ramparts, the Agdal and Menara gardens, Guéliz, Hivernage, sometimes the Palmeraie. The medina itself is only partly covered, because its lanes are narrow and crowded with scooters and pedestrians.
- Choose a tour that starts early in the morning, before the heat and traffic.
- Ask about bike sizes, difficulty (the terrain is flat) and the policy in extreme heat.
- Riding in Marrakech takes attention: traffic is dense and signals are poorly observed. A guide knows the quiet routes.
By tuk-tuk
The tuk-tuk is a small three-wheeler, open at the sides, that goes where a car cannot. Private tours offer a few hours with photo stops (Koutoubia, ramparts, gardens, the Palmeraie depending on the option) and a driver who acts as a more or less talkative guide. He is not an official guide: for a commented tour of the medina, see our official guided tour in Marrakech.
Settle these points before getting in:
- the price per vehicle or per person, and the exact duration;
- the route, as some drivers add shop stops where they earn a commission;
- the pick-up and drop-off point.
On the square, many drivers offer a tour on the spot: fix the price before leaving, as with a taxi. The petit taxi remains cheaper for a simple ride; see petit taxi, bus or horse carriage in Marrakech.
By vintage sidecar
The sidecar is the most original and most expensive option: an old motorbike (often from the 1940s or 1950s) with a side seat, driven by a driver-guide. According to operator descriptions, the tour lasts about 1 h 30, with at most two passengers per bike (one in the sidecar, one behind the rider), and covers the medina, Guéliz and sometimes the Palmeraie or the outskirts. A medina hotel advertises it from MAD 1,950 per person, booked the day before; other operators show different prices. Places are limited: book ahead.
What to know before choosing
- Animals: we recommend neither horse carriages nor animal-back tours; the options above are the alternatives.
- Sun and heat: in summer, start early or late in the day, drink plenty and wear a hat. See Marrakech in summer.
- Photos: ask before photographing local people, and read our photo rules in Marrakech.
- Scams: price confirmed in writing, no imposed shop stop, no surprise "guide"; see scams to avoid in Marrakech.
- Complement on foot: the medina is best seen on foot; combine a vehicle tour with walking, following our Marrakech medina guide and the ideas in unusual Marrakech.
