The 9-hour hike
The hiking trip lists moderate fitness and about 2 to 3 hours of walking on marked trails, sometimes uphill, which the organiser says it can shorten or lengthen. A Berber lunch of about 75 minutes is included, with a vegetarian option to request in advance. A camel ride is offered as an option, and a stop in Imlil is planned. One traveller found the walking lighter than expected on a hot day.
The gentle version: mule and Kik plateau
The mule offer (which we can no longer book through our partner) combines the Kik plateau and Imlil village, with a Moroccan lunch, mint tea and water. It is listed at about 7 hours, with about an hour on a mule; another traveller, on a neighbouring offer, had only 20 minutes on a mule and a lot of walking on uneven ground. Read the listing you choose.
Which valley
- Imlil: a High Atlas village at 1,740 m, at the foot of Toubkal.
- Ourika: Setti Fatma waterfalls; the hike there is optional and the site can be crowded at weekends.
- Several valleys: see the three Atlas valleys or the Ourika valley.
- Longer: the Imlil–Toubkal trek and the High Atlas guide.
What to bring
Walking shoes (trails are rocky and uneven), a warm layer since the Atlas is cooler than Marrakech, water and sun cream. The places are described on the Imlil and Toubkal and Ourika valley pages.
