The Ouzoud Falls lie in Azilal province, near the village of Tanaghmeilt, about 150 km northeast of Marrakech. The water drops a total height of about 110 metres, in three main falls, into a red-rock gorge that joins the El Abid river. The name comes from Berber and refers to grinding grain, a reminder of the mills built along the stream. Trails, pools, boats and macaques make the visit a full day out from Marrakech.
Highlights

The pool at the foot of the falls
The path goes down steps and terraces to the main pool. From there you see the falls in their full height, between red walls covered in vegetation.

The viewpoints and Barbary macaques
The path along the top of the gorge offers several viewpoints over the falls. A colony of Barbary macaques lives in the olive trees around: do not touch or feed them.

The colourful boats
Small flat-bottomed boats take you close to the foot of the falls, into the spray. The trip is short and paid on the spot, about twenty dirhams per person (prices checked in October 2026).

Tips
Access to the natural site is free. Guides offer their services on arrival; they are not essential, as the trails are well marked. Bring shoes with good grip: the steps can be slippery near the water. If you swim, be careful: the pools are not supervised and the current can be strong. Allow 3 to 4 hours on site.
How to get there
About 150 km northeast of Marrakech, or 2 h 30 to 3 h by road. Most visitors come on an organised day trip or with a private driver. By public transport, take a coach from Marrakech to Azilal, then a shared grand taxi for the remaining 36 km to Ouzoud; the journey takes longer and needs an early start.
