Hammam Dar el-Bacha in Marrakech: hours, prices and what to expect

Updated on October 8, 2026

The Dar el-Bacha hammam is one of the large public baths of the Marrakech medina. It stands in the Dar el-Bacha district, northwest of Jemaa el-Fna square, not far from the Dar el-Bacha museum. It is a neighbourhood hammam: locals bathe here, and visitors are welcome. Men and women are admitted at separate times. The bath has no website and no online booking, and it does not publish official opening hours: check them on the spot. The prices below are typical of a neighbourhood hammam, not a tariff posted by the establishment.

Highlights

The vaulted rooms and their domes

The vaulted rooms and their domes

Like every traditional hammam, this one is a series of vaulted rooms that get hotter and hotter, lit by small openings cut into the domes. The photo shows the dome of another medina hammam of the same type: photography inside is not allowed.

The Dar el-Bacha district

The hammam stands in the district of the palace of Pasha Thami El Glaoui. Combine the bath with a visit to the nearby museum, or a coffee in the alleys of Mouassine.

The black-soap scrub with a kessa glove

After the hot room, an attendant (or you) scrubs your skin with black soap and a kessa glove. The scrub by an attendant is paid separately: agree on the price beforehand.

Practical info

Tips

Pay in cash: the hammam has no card terminal. Entry to a neighbourhood hammam is around 10 to 20 dh, and the scrub by an attendant costs extra (a few dozen dirhams); our guide to hammams in Marrakech gives price ranges and the full procedure. Bring a swimsuit or underwear, a towel, sandals and black soap (sold at the entrance or at herbalists). Do not take photos inside. For a first time, a spa hammam is more comfortable, but this neighbourhood bath gives a truer picture of local life. Intense heat is not advised during pregnancy or with heart problems.
