Souk Cherifia: designer boutiques in the heart of the medina

Updated on October 8, 2026

The Souk Cherifia is a shopping arcade in the Sidi Abdelaziz district, north of Jemaa el-Fna square. Unlike the traditional souks, it gathers small designer boutiques under one roof: fashion, bags, embroidered shoes, jewellery, home linen, decor, ceramics and argan oil products. The alleys are quiet, the sellers less insistent than in the big souks, and the place makes a good break between two visits. It also houses La Terrasse des Épices, a rooftop restaurant well known to travellers.

The shops offer pieces by Moroccan craftspeople and designers: colourful leather bags, embroidered slippers, openwork metal lamps, embroidered linen, black-and-white ceramics. Compare with the neighbouring souks before buying: the workmanship and finish are generally better than at a stall in a big tourist lane.

The Souk Cherifia is a few minutes from the main shopping streets, such as Souk Semmarine street, pictured here. It shows a quieter side of shopping in the medina, with shop windows and prices that are often displayed. For the rest of the medina, see our Marrakech souks.

Tips

Sources consulted in October 2026 give opening every day from about 10:30 am to 7:30 pm: the shops are independent, so hours vary. Check on site or with your riad. Prices are often displayed, but a discount is still possible on a large purchase: stay courteous and do not haggle if you do not mean to buy. Compare several shops before paying. Bring dirhams in cash for small purchases. The restaurant La Terrasse des Épices (15, Souk Cherifia) is on the roofs: book for lunch or for sunset in season. To shop wisely, read our tips what to bring back from Marrakech and shopping and design.

How to get there

Souk Cherifia, Sidi Abdelaziz district, medina, a few minutes' walk north of Jemaa el-Fna square and the Souk Semmarine. On foot: allow 10 to 15 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna along the souk lanes; finding your way is easy with an offline map. Taxi: no taxi enters the medina; ask to be dropped near Jemaa el-Fna, then walk.
