Marrakech Water Museum (Musée Aman): opening hours, price and how to get there

Updated on October 1, 2026

At the northern entrance to Marrakech, on the Palmeraie roundabout, the Mohammed VI Museum for Water Civilization in Morocco, also called the Aman Museum ("aman" means water in Amazigh) or simply the Water Museum, explains how Morocco captures, shares and saves a scarce resource. Commissioned by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, it was inaugurated in January 2017 and opened to the public in May 2017. Its circular rooms, set over three levels around a large animated scale model, combine objects, manuscripts, reconstructions and video projections. The visit helps you understand what you see afterwards in the city: the Agdal and Menara gardens, the fountains of the medina and the palm grove itself.

Highlights

The animated scale model

At the heart of the building, a large model shows the water network of the Marrakech region. It is the key to the rest of the visit: where the water comes from and how it reaches the gardens.

Khettaras and water-catching techniques

Khettaras and water-catching techniques

The museum reconstructs the khettaras, underground tunnels that drain the water table over several kilometres, along with norias, wells and seguias (irrigation channels). This know-how allowed Marrakech, in a semi-arid climate, to feed its gardens for centuries.

One floor is devoted to water management in the oases and the rituals surrounding it, another to the fountains and distribution networks of the cities. The visit ends with the major water infrastructure of modern Morocco and today's water management challenges.

Tips

Admission costs 45 MAD, 30 MAD for Moroccans and residents, and 10 MAD for students and school pupils (prices checked in October 2026). Allow about an hour for the visit. The museum has a café and a shop. As it is far from the medina, ask your taxi to wait for you or combine the visit with a walk in the palm grove.

How to get there

Rond-point de la Palmeraie, route de Casablanca, Marrakech, about 7 km north of Jemaa el-Fna square. Taxi: ask for "musée Aman" or "musée de l'eau, route de Casablanca"; a metered petit taxi takes about twenty minutes from the medina or Guéliz.
