Where to zipline near Marrakech
The reference site is Terres d'Amanar, about 35 minutes from Marrakech, near Tahannaout, at around 1,200 m altitude. The park has a zipline course (four lines, the longest about 430 m according to the travel guides consulted) linked by a suspension bridge, plus a rope course, a children's course, mountain biking, climbing, archery and horse rides. This article focuses on choosing the right option; the park's other activities are covered in its own page.
Many "Atlas zipline" trips sold by Marrakech agencies head for the Ourika or Tahannaout area. The operator is not always named in the listing: ask before paying and check that it supplies harnesses, helmets and trained staff.
Prices: what a day costs
| Option | Indicative price (October 2026) | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Zipline / rope course, on site | About 210 to 250 MAD per person | Prices vary by activity and season |
| Children's course | About 100 MAD for 30 to 60 minutes | Separate ticket from the adult one |
| Organised trip with transport and meal | 600 to 1,200 MAD per person | Hotel or riad pickup, 6 to 8 hour day |
These ranges come from travel guides and resellers, not from an official price list: the final price depends on the operator, the season and the options (lunch, mountain biking, horse). The cheapest way is to drive there with a driver; an organised trip costs more but makes everything simpler.
Minimum age, fitness and equipment
- Age: the main zipline course is generally listed from 12 years old by the guides consulted; Terres d'Amanar offers a tree course suited to children aged 3 to 8, accompanied by their parents. Each course has its own age, height and weight conditions: ask when booking.
- Fitness: no experience is needed, but you must be able to walk between platforms and cope with heights.
- Equipment: a harness is compulsory and provided on site. Wear closed shoes and loose clothing, tie back long hair and keep fragile items and your phone in a closed bag.
Going on your own or booking a trip
Getting there by car or taxi
Allow about 35 minutes from Marrakech by the Tahannaout road (R203, towards Asni and Ouirgane), then a minor road to the douar Akli. A driver for the day, or a taxi that waits for the return, is the easiest; a rental car suits you if you are comfortable on mountain roads, and our guide to car rental in Marrakech gives the rules. Book before you come, especially at weekends and during Moroccan school holidays.
Booking an organised trip
A trip with a transfer from Marrakech saves you finding a driver. You can book online the zipline and hike in the Atlas from Marrakech; check on the listing the operator, the departure point, the minimum age and what the price includes before booking. Our comparison of excursions from Marrakech helps you choose between group and private options.
Safety: what to check before you go
- Briefing and supervision: an instructor should explain the moves, check every harness and assist at departures and arrivals. If not, walk away.
- Equipment: harness, helmet, carabiners and pulleys must be in good condition and checked in front of you.
- Weather: in strong wind, storms or rain, the lines may close. Postpone rather than force it.
- Health: back or heart problems, pregnancy or vertigo are reasons to abstain; also check weight limits with the operator.
- Insurance: make sure your travel insurance covers adventure sports.
- Price: agree the return fare and waiting time with the driver before leaving; our advice on scams to avoid in Marrakech also applies to excursions.
When to go
Spring and autumn have the most pleasant temperatures. In summer, come in the morning: the altitude makes the air cooler than in the city, but the afternoon sun is tiring. In winter it can be cold and the weather changes quickly; clear days offer the best view of the snowy peaks.
