No booking: the evening that always works
If you only have an hour, head to Jemaa el-Fna square: the food stalls set up in the late afternoon and the square stays lively late, every evening of the year. Expect to pay 40 to 80 DH per person for a full meal, and confirm the price of each dish when you order. Then climb to a café terrace for sunset and stroll to the Koutoubia Mosque, whose minaret is lit at night. Addresses are detailed in our guide to Marrakech at night.
On Thursdays at 7 pm, the storytelling evenings at Café Clock, in the Kasbah, are free (buying something there is the least you can do): no booking, but arrive a little early.
What you can still book in the afternoon
Food tour and night walk in the medina
This is the best option for a first evening: a guide picks the stalls and the houses, and you taste without worrying about prices. Two GetYourGuide listings to look at: the night food tour with dinner at Jemaa el-Fna and the medina night walking tour with tastings. On the listing, the calendar shows the slots still open today and the free-cancellation deadline: read it before paying. Our food tour in Marrakech guide details the options.
Dinner show in the medina
Medina houses offer dinner with music and dance. The offers are gathered in our medina dinner show: which offer guide; in the evening, a message or a call to the restaurant is often enough for a table of two or three, less easily for a group.
Chez Ali and Comptoir Darna
Chez Ali opens its doors at 8 pm every evening, with a fantasia show around 10:30 pm and, most often, a transfer from your hotel: book in the afternoon so the shuttle has time to add you. See the Chez Ali page and our guide Chez Ali dinner show: which offer.

At Comptoir Darna, in the Hivernage, the restaurant is open from 7 pm to 1 am and the show starts around 10:30 pm; the venue quotes 600 to 900 DH per person. Smart dress is required, and booking is advised whenever it is high season.
An evening in the Agafay desert
This is the outing that needs the most notice: the minibus leaves around 4 pm to reach the camp for sunset, and returns around 10 pm. If you read this at 2 pm it is still possible; at 5 pm, move it to tomorrow. A well-rated option (4.8 from 3,342 reviews in October 2026) starts at about $26 per person. Full comparison: Agafay dinner show: which offer.
Keep for tomorrow
Some outings do not belong in a last-minute decision: the hot-air balloon (dawn departure), excursions to the Atlas or Essaouira, an end-of-day hammam with massage if slots are taken. For these, book the day before: see excursions from Marrakech and hammam in Marrakech: which offer.
Getting back at night
Plan the return before you book. Beige petits taxis must use the meter; at night a legal 50% surcharge applies. In the medina, taxis do not enter the derbs: ask your riad to meet you at the drop-off point, or note a landmark nearby. All the precautions are in our guide to getting home safely at night in Marrakech, and the classic traps in scams to avoid in Marrakech.
Which evening to choose at the last minute
- It is before 6 pm and you have a budget: medina food tour or Chez Ali with transfer.
- It is 2 pm and you want a change of scene: Agafay, leaving around 4 pm.
- You have booked nothing and it is late: Jemaa el-Fna, a terrace, the lit-up Koutoubia.
- You are travelling with children: Chez Ali, or an early meal on the square; see Marrakech with kids.
- You want a drink: bars in Guéliz and the Hivernage, and the rules in alcohol in Marrakech.
During Ramadan, evening hours change: see Ramadan in Marrakech.
