Setti Fatma Waterfalls: the hike at the end of the Ourika Valley
Setti Fatma is the last village of the Ourika Valley, about 60 km from Marrakech at the foot of the High Atlas. Above the houses, a torrent tumbles down the mountain in seven stepped waterfalls, and the hike to see them is the most popular part of the excursion. Allow half a day on site for the first waterfall, more for the ones above.
Highlights

The first waterfall
From the village, a path follows the bank for about thirty minutes, with a few rocky sections and stream crossings. Café tables are set out at the water's edge. This stretch is manageable for most visitors, including those who do not walk much.

The upper waterfalls
Beyond the first, the climb gets steeper: you scramble over boulders, sometimes using your hands, above drops. The highest falls call for good shoes, fitness and, ideally, a local guide. The torrent is at its strongest when the snow melts in spring.

Tips
Access to the path is free. Village guides offer to lead the climb for roughly 100 to 200 DH depending on the length (agree the price before setting off). A car park is signposted at the entrance to the village. Wear shoes with good grip: the rocks are slippery, and the path is best avoided in rain or storms, as the torrent can rise suddenly.
How to get there
Setti Fatma is about 1 h 30 by road from Marrakech, along the Ourika road. Shared grand taxis or a private taxi for the day from the city; group excursions with hotel pick-up. By car, follow the Ourika signs from the ramparts. Return taxis become scarce in the late afternoon.
