Marrakech Grand Stadium: closed for works until late 2028

Updated on October 8, 2026

The Grand Stade de Marrakech, on the Safi road north-west of the city, opened in 2011 with 45,240 seats originally. It hosted the FIFA Club World Cup in 2013 and 2014 and eight matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and it is among the stadiums selected for the 2030 World Cup. Note: it has been closed since early 2026 for a deep rebuild, and no match or concert can be held there until the works end, announced for late 2028. To watch a match while the stadium is closed, see football in Marrakech and the Kawkab club.

Highlights

The stadium

The stadium

Designed for football with an athletics track around the pitch, it was brought up to Confederation of African Football standards for the 2025 Cup of Nations (first phase of works, finished in June 2025). The second phase plans to remove the track, lower the pitch, reshape the stands and roof the stadium, for a capacity of around 46,000 by 2030.

Matches and concerts

Before it closed, the stadium hosted Morocco national team matches, the city's clubs and large concerts. While the works last, these events are moved to other stadiums in the country: check the calendar of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation or the organiser.

Practical info

Tips

While it is closed, the stadium cannot be visited and no tickets are on sale. To attend a match in Morocco, check the venue announced on the official channels of the federation or club, and buy tickets only from the event's official ticket office. A Grand Stade railway station linked to the city centre is planned for 2028, according to the press; until then, the stadium is reached by taxi.

How to get there

The stadium is about ten kilometres from the centre, on the Safi road. Take a petit taxi from Guéliz or the medina (insist on the meter); on event days traffic is heavy, so allow extra time.
