Exact departures and times change with the season and the operator: the listing and the confirmation message are what count.
What "booking the night before" means
On the platforms, most day trips accept a booking the day before, sometimes until the evening. Three things to read before you pay:
- The cancellation window. Several listings offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. A trip tomorrow morning booked tonight is already inside that window: check the condition on the listing, as cancellation may no longer be free.
- The pick-up time and place. If you stay in a medina alley, the minibus often stops at a gate or a square. Ask for the exact spot and time, and keep the operator's phone number.
- What is paid on the spot. At Ouzoud, for example, the boat, the guide and lunch are sometimes paid in cash on site: see our Ouzoud comparison.
A price far below the ranges above, offered in the street or by a tout, should make you wary: see our scams to avoid in Marrakech.
A day outside the city
Three outings are decided by the road. Choose first by how long a drive you accept.
- Ourika: about 1 to 1.5 hours by road, orchards, villages and the Setti Fatma waterfalls. Offers from $6 to $25, including the day with lunch and waterfalls ($12 to $14) or the three valleys trip ($25). See the Ourika comparison.
- Ouzoud: about 150 km, 2.5 to 3 hours by road, 110 m falls. The trip with boat and monkeys starts at $17; the private version at about $94. Spring gives the best flow.
- Essaouira: 175 to 190 km, about 3 hours by road. Private offers from $48 (2 people minimum), $74 or $120 depending on the operator, compared in our Essaouira guide. Supratours and CTM buses leave several times a day, with no compulsory booking: see train and bus from Marrakech.
Other destinations (Aït Ben Haddou, Telouet, Casablanca) involve more road than sightseeing: see day trips from Marrakech.
An evening in Agafay
The Agafay Desert is the outing that can be arranged latest: a minibus picks you up in mid-afternoon, settles you in a camp for the sunset, then dinner and the show. Examples seen in October 2026: sunset camel ride with dinner ($26, departure 4 pm, back around 10 pm) and dinner with camel ride and pool ($21, about 4 hours). See the full comparison. Early morning: the hot air balloon
The flight takes place at sunrise, with pick-up around 5 to 5:30 am in summer and later in winter. You can book until the evening before (8 pm with Ciel d'Afrique for the classic flight), but spots go fast in spring, during European school holidays and at the end of the year. The Marrakech Ballooning listing (about $106) announces free cancellation up to 24 hours before: for a flight tomorrow booked tonight, that window has already passed. The weather decides on the spot; see our flight comparison.
A break at the hammam
If your legs are asking for mercy, the hammam is the easiest activity to add at the last minute. From the budget hammam and massage (€22.84) to the hammam with massage and transfer (€81.30), the price gaps come mostly from the transfer and the length. See the hammam comparison.
What is already full or cannot be booked
- Jardin Majorelle and the YSL and Berber museums: online tickets only, for a date and a time slot, with no sales at the door; morning slots go several days ahead. If tomorrow is full, look at another slot or at the Jardin Secret. Details in Jardin Majorelle: tickets and tours.
- The medina monuments: usually nothing to book, but check hours and prices in monument tickets and opening hours.
Which plan to choose?
- For a first day outside the city: the Ourika, the closest and simplest.
- For big landscapes: Ouzoud, in spring.
- For a change of air: Essaouira, with a private driver or the bus.
- For an evening plan: Agafay, booked during the day.
- To rest: a hammam at the time of your choice.
- With little time: see Marrakech in half a day or, for tonight, what to do tonight in Marrakech. For a walking itinerary, see Marrakech in one day.
