Museum of Moroccan Culinary Arts in Marrakech: opening hours, price and visit

Updated on October 14, 2026

In the Riad Zitoun el-Jdid district, a short walk from the Bahia Palace, the Museum of Moroccan Culinary Art occupies a restored former notable's residence built around two large inner courtyards. Open to the public since 30 May 2023, it is the country's first museum devoted to Moroccan food. The visit runs over several levels: demonstrations of traditional skills (argan oil, oven-baked bread, hand-rolled couscous, flower distillation, tea service), tableware, copper trays and cedar tables. Upstairs, a room with 34 stations hosts cooking classes led by traditional home cooks, the "dada".

Highlights

The skills demonstrations

The skills demonstrations

Artisans show how argan oil is pressed and how bread, couscous or orange-blossom water are made. It is the liveliest part of the visit, and the one that best explains what you will find on the plates of the medina afterwards.

The tea service

The tea service

Mint tea is a ritual more than a drink: the height of the pour, the number of glasses, the order of serving. The museum stages it, and a tea room lets you taste it at the end of the route.

The cooking class

The cooking class

On the second level you cook a Moroccan dish yourself under the guidance of a dada, then eat it. It takes longer than a visit and is best booked in advance if you want a place.

Tips

  • The simple visit costs 60 MAD for foreign visitors and 40 MAD for Moroccans; the formula with a tasting is 120 MAD. The cooking class lasts about 2 hours and costs around 600 MAD per person, with morning and afternoon sessions (prices found in 2026 in the press and with guides; confirm them with the museum, as they change). Allow 45 minutes to 1 hour for the visit alone. A rooftop restaurant and a tea room complete the place. Combine it with the Bahia Palace and the Kasbah, both very close.
